Biography:
Nancy Teten, MSW, MA, LCSW, CAP received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of South Florida in Tampa. Nancy received her first graduate degree as a Master of Arts in Aging Studies from the University of South Florida in Tampa and later completed her second graduate degree as a Master in Social Work from the University of South Florida in Tampa. She has completed her third year of the Ph.D. Program in Social Work at the University of South Florida in Tampa and is now completing her dissertation to achieve her Ph.D. in Social Work.
She has extensive experience in the field of addictions including Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office In – Jail Drug Program Manager for six years and has been treating addictions for an additional ten years at the University of South Florida College of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Medicine and in private practice in Tampa. She has achieved the highest addiction certification awarded by the Florida Certification Board as a Certified Addiction Professional (CAP) and is internationally certified by the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (ICRC). In addition, she is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Florida and is additionally qualified to supervise registered clinical social work interns.
Nancy has taught courses at St. Pete College for over five years and enjoys working with students of all ages and backgrounds. Nancy has also taught both undergraduate and graduate courses at the University of South Florida. She enjoys being part of the student’s learning experience.
Her current full – time position is Chief of Clinical Services for the Johnnie B. Byrd, Sr. Alzheimer’s Center & Research Institute, located on the University of South Florida campus in Tampa. She has lectured extensively on topics including addictions, social work, mental health, and geriatrics. She also functions as a Medical Member of the Examining Committee to Determine Incapacity for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit (for the last seven years), maintains a small part – time, private practice, and is a Psychological Consultant for a local Assisted Living Facility. Her career spans more than 25 years and has included working full – time while going to school to achieve her degrees. She understands the challenges of raising a family, attending school, and succeeding in her chosen career.
