  Biography:

I received my bachelor's degree in philosophy from The University of West Florida, and my Master's degree in philosophy from Western Michigan University.  I was also a PhD student at Michigan State University.  My area of focus (specialization) throughout was in meta-ethics and normative moral theory.  The former is the theory of moral language and metaphysics, and the latter attempts to spell out how we should conduct ourselves.

I co-edited a Wiley-Blackwell anthology titled Food and Philosophy: Eat, Think and be Merry with Fritz Allhoff of Western Michigan, and have an essay in the forthcoming Whiskey and Philosophy.  I'm currently editing another volume for this series (Philosophy for Everyone), titled Pornography and Philosophy.  On the side, I'm working out some ideas about personhood, particularly the role that social status attribution plays in whether we call something a "person."

In addition to teaching at SPC, I am an adjunct instructor of philosophy at the University of Tampa, where I teach Sports Ethics, Contemporary Ethical Issues, Critical Thinking, and Intro to Philosophy.

I am also the current President of The Lighthearted Philosophers' Society, a scholarly organization for the exploration of humor and humorous philosophizing.  Our first two annual meetings have been rousing successes, and we anticipate even bigger responses next year.  The 2009 meeting will again be in St. Pete on Oct. 16th and 17th.

When not busy ruminating on humor, rationality, morality, and sports I spend time with my wife Rhonda, and too much time watching sports on TV.

Note the following if you're taking my courses:

This course requires the purchase of the following textbook: Goree, Keith, Manias, Nicholas & Till, Jane (2009), Ethics Applied, Edition 6.0, New York: Pearson (ISBN 10: 0-588-05454-4) Previous editions of Ethics Applied cannot be used for the course. Soon, a pre-graduation assessment is planned on being instituted – students will have to have knowledge of the critical thinking model that is taught in our course – this model is only in the 6.0 version.
