  Biography:

My educational background includes: A.B. from Bowdoin College; M.Div. Princeton Theological Seminary; Th.M. and D. Min. from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, VA; and M.Phil. and Ph.D. from Drew University.  I served as a Presbyterian minister for 30 years and have always had a passion for teaching.

I also have a personal interest in the American Presidency.  I teach a course every year at Eckerd College on the American Presidency.  I collect and read material related to the subject.

Learning for me is a lifelong adventure in which one discovers not just new facts but more importantly how seemingly separate ideas and phenomena related to each other.  Religious studies may be one of the more pertinent academic disciplines in our contemporary world.  People's values and convictions expressed through religion have a great influence on how the world functions.  In a pluralistic culture as America, it becomes critical for us to know and to appreciate where people draw their inspiration for living and how they understand society.  My aim is to assist students in this awareness.  And as is always the case, the teacher ends up learning just as much, if not more, than the students.

I have enjoyed sharing this learning adventure with colleagues and students at St. Petersburg College and have appreciated the opportunity to continue my own personal adventure in education.
