  Biography:

I earned a B.A. in English from Rollins College, M.A. in English from the University of South Florida and Ph.D. in Modern British Literature from the University of South Florida. I served as secretary (2002), vice president (2003) and president (2004) of the Florida College English Association. I teach English and Humanities courses (including Freshman Composition I & II, British Literature I & II, Humanities I & II and East-West Synthesis). Many of these are interdisciplinary courses, web-enhanced courses and web-based courses. I enjoy teaching traditional seminar style classes as well as designing and teaching those enhanced by technology. While teaching at USF, I was honored to receive the James Parrish Award for Outstanding Teaching. Some of my recent presentations and publications deal with new paradigms for interdisciplinary web course design and connections between web-supported learning and global competency in the context of higher education. I participate in academic programs abroad and believe that students benefit from curricula & programs focused on global awareness in this interconnected world. My interests include history, philosophy and critical theory. My most recent book is The Imperial Quest and Modern Memory from Conrad to Greene (Routledge, 2005). I enjoy my profession and encourage students to consider English as a major. "Intellectum valde amat" (St. Augustine).
