  Biography:

Teaching Philosophy: I run my classes like writing/discussion workshops, because I believe the only way for students to improve their writing is for them actually to write. Most of the class time is student-driven with the students either responding in discussion to professional essays or works of literature, or with them reading and commenting on each other's papers. Thus, students come out of my classes knowing to write in such a way that will work successfully in any of their future college courses. Also, by completing both individual and group work assignments, they are sharpening their both their independent and team-playing skills which they will need to be an active part of working America.

Teaching Specialties: American Literature 1920-1980; emphases on African-American Literature & Mark Twain 18th Century British Literature; Jungian Psychology; Modern Western Drama from Ibsen to the present; Developmental English I, II; Composition I, II; Introduction to Literature; Research Interests: American Drama Tennessee Williams
