  Biography:

Education is a process, not an event. Thomas Merton wrote, "The least of learning is done in the classrooms." I agree. When students are captivated by the process of education and the delight of applying knowledge in ways that impact the world outside the classroom, then real learning occurs. I arrived in St. Petersburg as a freshman at Eckerd College and discovered that I was meant to be a Floridian.

My educational background includes a BA from Eckerd College, MA in Counseling from Liberty University and Ed.D. in Counseling Psychology from University of Sarasota (now known as Argosy University). I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, National Certified Psychologist, National Certified Counselor, National Certified Gerontological Counselor and FACCS Certified K-12 School Administrator. Additionally, I am the author of five books: How to Start and Manage a Counseling Business, Group Techniques for Aging Adults, Lifeline to Care with Dignity, Maintaining Family Bonds When Care Needs Change and Foundations of Gerontology. Some people know me as the WriteDoc, freelance business writer and Certified Health Coach. Outside the classroom, my interests are choir, sewing, knitting, decorating and HGTV when time permits. I may cease grading papers during Iron Chef America or Project Runway as this demands my total attention.
