After having taught in Virginia, Michigan, and Europe, Professor Gilleland joined the SPC faculty in 1985. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia and has completed four post-doctoral grants at Stanford and Harvard Universities. In 1997, she won an Excellence in Teaching Award for her work at Harvard Summer School. She has published scholarly articles on French literature and second language acquisition.
