Enrollment up at St. Petersburg College

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Aug. 19, 2008) -- Enrollment at St. Petersburg College has been increasing at a rapid rate, especially enrollment in the college’s online classes, it was announced today.

Registration for the upcoming fall term is still open, but overall enrollment is up 10 percent. Classes begin Aug. 25.

Total enrollment for the 2007-08 academic year, including fall, spring and summer semesters, totaled 182,442 students, up 11 percent over the previous year. Enrollment in online classes was up more than 12 percent, and accounted for 31.5 percent of all SPC enrollments for the year.

“What we are seeing is a steady increase in overall enrollment as well as in online enrollment, as interest in Internet-based programs continues to grow rapidly,” said Carl M. Kuttler Jr., president of the college. “Making our programs available over the Internet makes college more convenient, especially for students who are employed fulltime or who have demanding family schedules.”
