Welcome to Web and Instructional Technology Services reusable learning object site. The term
reusable learning object (RLO) has become a "hot" topic over the
last couple of years. The first question that comes to mind for most faculty
is what is a RLO? The answer is not as straight forward as one would think.
You can think of a learning object as a resource that can be used to help enhance the intended learning outcome. To some people it could be collection of web pages. To others a learning object requires a certain level of interaction. This is the problem with the definition of a reusable learning object. Most agree that learning objects should have a set of learning objectives and outcomes that meet those objectives. The learning object can be created using animation or just text as long as it meets the objectives and outcomes.
If this definition is still not clear, perhaps some example RLO's would help.
Below is are three links some different types RLO's (all require the Flash
Player):
- Basic Spanish WordsBasic
Spanish Words Flashcards - This RLO are flashcards created by an instructor.

tool. This object is used in a biological science lab course to help students
